The contactor’s main role is to manage high-power electrical circuits by activating and deactivating its electromagnetic coil, which physically opens or closes connections to control current flow.The following are its core functions and related details:
1. Key Roles of an AC Contactor
Electrical Safety: In conjunction with thermal relays, circuit breakers and other equipment, overload protection and short-circuit protection can be achieved, and the circuit will automatically disconnect when a circuit fails.Acts as a safety barrier between the thermostat’s low-voltage control circuit and the high-voltage components.
Circuit On-Off Control: The main circuit can be quickly connected or disconnected through electromagnetic induction to achieve the start, stop, forward and reverse operation of the load, and support frequent actions.

2. Working Principle
Electromagnetic System: When the coil is energized, a magnetic field is generated to attract the moving iron core (armature) to move toward the static iron core.
Contact action: The moving iron core drives the main contact to close and connect the main circuit; at the same time, the auxiliary contact switches, which is used for signal feedback or control logic.
Power-off reset: After the coil is powered off, the magnetic field disappears, the spring resets the moving iron core, and the contact is disconnected.

Motor control: motor start and stop, star-delta step-down starting, variable frequency speed regulation system.
Industrial equipment: automatic control of fans, pumps, compressors.
Civil scenarios: centralized control of air conditioners, elevators, and lighting systems.

4. Maintenance of AC Contactor
Power-off inspection: Turn off the air conditioner power supply and check the power supply to confirm that there is no power.
Visual inspection:Check whether the contactor housing is burnt or deformed.Observe whether the contacts are burned, blackened or stuck.
Clean the contacts:Use fine sandpaper to gently polish the oxidized/burned contacts.Blow away the dust.
Test the coil:Use a multimeter to measure the coil resistance.
